September 2001: Baby Moondancer

Hi, I'm Baby Moondancer! My favorite things are
teddy bears, crayons, and laying the smackdown on Catrina!
I considered several different ponies for the second PoTM before my attention was drawn towards Baby Moondancer, who was staring at me very hard from my bookshelf.

They picked me?? They picked me for 'Catrina'?? YAAAY!! Now, I am not a huge fan of baby ponies in general. Between the language-impaired babies of My Little Pony and Friends and the terror that was Baby Lickety-Split in My Little Pony: The Movie, I've grown wary of pint-sized ponies. But there are two high points in the animated adventures of the youngest equines. The first, of course, is the esteemed Ember.

The second is Baby Moondancer.

Her toy version was adorable, of course, but what really sets Baby Moondancer apart and makes her a cut above the rest was her cartoon portrayal. No baby talk for this little pony, for all that she was reticent.

Ain't she cute, though? No, Baby Moondancer had better things to do than throw a fit when she didn't have a costume for the party (which is what Baby Lickety-Split would've done--you know she would've.) Instead, after a quick consultation with Megan, she walked out of the Lullabye Nursery, met Catrina's shape-shifting henchman, Rep, and beat him down!

Yep, that's right. After firmly refusing to give Rep the Rainbow of Light, a few well aimed kicks took down poor Rep. And when Catrina showed up, that sneaky cat thief, Baby Moondancer's first choice was to called for help . . . but second choice was to clamp her vise-like teeth on Catrina's finger.

You go, girl!

OVERALL:

Baby Moondancer wins again! Physical Demeanor: White baby unicorn, pink hair with a purple streak, purple eyes, magenta moon and star symbols

Hasbro-sponsored Appearances: She starred in Escape from Catrina! Baby Moondancer also showed up in the UK comic books once in a while (though not as often as I would've liked!) I haven't seen her on any merchandise, unfortunately.

LM-sponsored Appearances: She's in two fanfics (Fire, Air, Water . . . and For Everything a Season), though she doesn't have huge parts. But naturally she plays a significant part in Catrina. ^_~

Highlights: In addition to being the savviest baby pony ever, she has an adorable and perfectly proportioned toy. Forget the newborn sausage-babies--THIS is what a baby pony should look like!

Lowlights: Her hooves are so dainty that baby pony shoes fall right off! And where did she go after Escape from Catrina?

Weirdness: Come to think of it, why wasn't ADULT Moondancer in Escape from Catrina?

Baby Moondancer prepares to 'bust a move.'
