November 2001: Peach Blossom

Elegant
I like flutter ponies. I like them a lot. When I look at them, several words drift into my mind, unbidden. Sleek. Graceful. Delicate.

Arrogant.

Peach Blossom tries to outshine the stars "What is LM talking about?" you may be wondering. "Perhaps she's refering to the fact that the flutter ponies initially refused to help the other ponies in the movie?"

Good guess, but no. The toys themselves impressed me with their unbridled haughtiness. Look at any Year 4 flutter pony's face. Really look at it.

You see, flutter ponies don't have the mirthful, stretching smiles seen on the average pony. A flutter pony's smile is subtle, barely lifting one side of her lip*. Glory and Cotton Candy smile because they're glad to see you; Peach Blossom and Lily smile because now you can pay proper reverence to their beauty.

Ah yes, Peach Blossom. You were wondering when I'd get to her, weren't you? ^_~ Plainly put, Peach Blossom is the most beautiful of the flutter ponies.

PB plays with her food. Rosedust? Pffft! She's in a silly pose and anyway, she has nasty fading hair. Lily? Medium-blah purple. Don't get me started on Morning Glory. Peach Blossom, on the other hoof . . . she strides with elegance and she's so . . . so . . .

So blue.

Is it any wonder Peach Blossom was my first pony avatar when I wandered onto the Dream Castle Message Board those many years ago? Yes, until I arbitrarily decided that I didn't care if anyone else was using Moondancer's name as their ID, I was commonly known as PB. ^_^

Hey, what's not to like? Striding. Blue. Proudly stretching her translucent wings***. Truly this pony deserves a place of honor.

I know she'd agree. ^_~

* Actually, this depends on the kind of flutter pony you have--small-eyed or large-eyed. You can find variations of all of the original six flutters, simply because different factories had slightly different molds. The large-eyed flutters are gooey-eyed with sappy smiles; the small-eyed flutters look cynical and at best could be said to be smirking in a superior way. Guess which kind of flutter pony I like more? *WEG*

** I think the fragility of flutter pony wings is greatly exaggerated. Both my flutters survived for years with their wings intact. It's more likely a case of "Accessory Misplacement". You don't see the little teething rings that came with the First Tooth babies a lot either; it's not because they were breakable.

OVERALL:

Are they done with the pictures? Can I stop smiling now? Physical Demeanor: Light blue flutter pony, aqua hair, lavender eyes, peach blossom symbols.

Hasbro-sponsored Appearances: The flutter ponies were ripped off. Dozens of flutters in the movie and how many were based on the toys? TWO. Let me repeat that . . . TWO. Why on EARTH didn't they put all six flutter ponies in there? All they would've had to do is draw symbols on a few "background" flutters.

Anyway, even though PB didn't appear in the movie, she was in The End of Flutter Valley . . . though her most important line was "Hello, Honeysuckle!" -_- She's in a few, very few, UK comics. (For some reason the flutters aren't featured much in them.) No important roles, though.

LM-sponsored Appearances: Uh . . . well . . . none of the flutter ponies have shown up in my stories yet. ^_^'' Don't worry, sooner or later I'll get to them. I've already worked out an elaborate culture for them.

Highlights: She's elegant! She's graceful! She's blue! ^_^

Lowlights: It's impossible to find her on eBay with wings for any decent price. WHY did I have to sell my winged one at that garage sale for a dollar?? WHY??

Weirdness: This isn't related to Peach Blossom in particular, but . . . where the slag did all the flutters disappear to between the movie and The End of Flutter Valley?? Suddenly there were only SIX flutter ponies? Huh?
